Highbrow Lowbrow

September 4, 2022

The latest episode of Highbrow Lowbrow is now available. My podcast co-host Dan Slattery and I look at two very different war films. Dan’s pick is Rogue One, possibly the best film in the Star Wars franchise. I discuss the World War Two murder mystery The Night of the Generals. An underrated gem.

You can listen here. Enjoy!

Rogue One is great- almost the Dirty Dozen in space. I have to check out Night of the Generals- WWII murder mystery is definitely my style.
Have you read any of the “detective in Nazi Germany” sub-genre? The Bernie Gunther series by the late Phillip Kerr is particularly good.

Hi Dan, Yes I enjoyed Rogue One. It’s funny you should mention The Dirty Dozen as I refer to it in the podcast as one of reasons The Night of the Generals wasn’t a commercial hit. But it remains a brilliant WWII murder mystery nonetheless and I hope you enjoy it. I haven’t read the Bernie Gunther novels alas. The only Kerr I’ve read is The Shot which I enjoyed. So many books to read so little time…
